Transition to Kindergarten

Transition to Kindergarten

At Parkes East Public School we offer transition programs to help your child move between their home and preschool life to the beginning stages of school. We understand that this can be a big change for some students, therefore we offer a transition playgroup as well as three formal transition visits to the school in Term 4.

Transition Playgroup

Transition Playgroup commences in Term 3 and runs every week for 90 minutes until mid-late Term 4.

The program is for students starting Kindergarten the following year and aims to support them during transition to school.

Parents, carers and younger siblings are also invited to attend Playgroup and participate in activities with their children.

School readiness is developed by delivery of a structured program, allowing children to establish relationships with new friends and teachers, learn school routines and spend time in Kindergarten classrooms and playground.

Additional Transition

Additional transition is available for children who require extra time adjusting to the school environment, ask about this at the school office.

Formal Transition Sessions

During Term 4 we have three formal transition sessions for our students who are starting in Kindergarten in the following year. These sessions include all students and are held in the Kindergarten rooms. Students are able to meet other new students and participate in class activities.

Parents and carers drop their children off for these sessions and are not required to attend.

Further details will be updated for 2019 transition and information sessions.

Kindergarten Interviews

In Term 4, transition children and their parents attend an individual meeting to finalise arrangements for the following year.
